Win a trip to the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.!
Each year Yellowstone Valley Electric Cooperative sponsors a high school student on the “youth to Washington” tour in June. The winner of an essay contest joins over 20 other Montana students on a week long tour of our nation’s capital where they have the opportunity to visit the monuments and museums, as well as tour the Capitol and meet with the Montana Congressional Delegates. Sophomore and juniors in high school are eligible for the school year of 2017-2018. The student’s parents or guardians must be served by YVEC. To win the trip, the student must submit an essay along with a completed application form to the YVEC office by Friday, December 1, 2017. Please include a cover page that includes the students name, address, phone number, and the name of the cooperative. Sons and daughters of electric cooperative employees or board members are ineligible to participate in the contest. They may go on the tour as a “Willie Wirehand” student and pay their own expenses.
The topic for the essay is:
Electric cooperatives offer various opportunities to young people, such as scholarships, job shadowing, electrical safety programs and sponsorships. What are some innovative ways your electric cooperative can connect with young people, especially with children and teens?
