CEO Message – April 2023

Brandon Wittman headshotWhether it’s a sporting event or a place of business, I always enjoy watching a team work smoothly. When teams are selfless and driven, they truly look effortless even during difficult tasks. I believe in teamwork. Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.

Life in the utility world can get monotonous. It is essential that the YVEC team does not forget what a wonderful opportunity we offer tens of thousands of our neighbors by providing the power that runs their businesses, heats their homes, and lights their nights. So many depend on our YVEC teamwork. It truly takes all of us to make this system work as well as it does.

Think of the process for a new member needing service. How many of our YVEC teammates are either directly or indirectly involved in that process? If it involves building new line, the number goes even higher. From the initial phone call, the office visit, staking meeting, line design, construction, work order closing and then eventual monthly power bill, that new member has dealings with literally every department. After connecting a member, we are entrusted to maintain reliable power, accurate billing, provide any additional information on products and services we offer and keep the cooperative in strong financial standing. The member, no doubt, relies on the entire YVEC team over a period of time.

We’ve grown into one of the largest co-ops in the region. It seems as though we surpass multiple milestones year over year. However, the larger we get, the strength of the team and the ability to work together becomes all the more imperative. It doesn’t matter to our members if they are customer number 1 or customer number 22,409. What matters is the quality and reliability of our service to them. Individual effort still matters. A single employee can solve a problem or have a significant positive affect on any member. However, over the life of a membership, the ability of the entire YVEC team is tested. No task is too minor, for it’s the sum of all of our efforts that keep our members appreciative of YVEC. Our mission is, “….to provide safe, reliable, affordable power and excellent service, with a focus on the success of our members and the communities we serve.”, and only our teamwork makes that possible.

It is essential that the YVEC team does not forget what a wonderful opportunity we offer tens of thousands of our neighbors by providing the power that runs their businesses, heats their homes, and lights their nights.
